Week 5 in High School football action saw the Richmond Spartans travel to Lafayette County to face the Higginsville Huskers during homecoming week.

A perfect evening saw these two teams battle it out in the midfield for most of the first quarter, before Richmond took a 6-0 lead after a quarterback option from the 13 yard line. Sophomore Quinton Maxwell scrambled in with 4:17 left in the 1st.

Higginsville answered in the opening seconds of the 2nd quarter when Quarterback Adam Reid ran a QB option off the left side from the 1 yard line. The point after was good and the Huskers led 7-6.

The Spartans and Huskers traded possessions before the Huskers struck again with 4:27 left in the half. Adam Reid threw a 34 yard strike to Tyrell Thirkield who took it in for the score. The point after was good and Higginsville was up 14-6.

Then, with under a minute to go in the half, Reid hooked up with L. J. Williams for an 11-yard TD pass. The kick was good and Higginsville was up 21-6 at halftime.

Both teams were scoreless in the 3rd quarter, and then with just 5:13 left in the game, Adam Reid struck again, this time a 36 yard bullet to Landon Figg who shed tackles at will and rumbled in for the score. After the kick; Higginsville was up 28-6 over the Spartans.

Higginsville would score again before it was over and the Huskers celebrated their fifth win and remain undefeated on the season with a score of 35-6.

Unofficially, Husker Adam Reid was 11 of 16 with 166 yards and 3 Touchdown passes, plus a rushing TD. Cottry Lewis rushed for 119 yards on 20 carries.

For the Spartans Quinton Maxwell had a rough night, going 6 of 15 for 45 yards and 3 picks. He also had a rushing touchdown.

The Huskers will travel to Holden to face the 4-1 Eagles next week.

Richmond will be at home next Friday as they take on the struggling Trojans of Carrollton who are now 0-5.
