SALINE COUNTY, Mo. — A crash on Interstate 70 in Saline County sent a passenger from South Bridge, Mo. to an area hospital early Wednesday morning.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, troopers were called to the westbound lanes of I-70 at the 77 mile marker, just past Marshall Junction, around 12:43 a.m. Wednesday, to reports of a crash involving two vehicles.

A vehicle driven by Sean O’Connel, 55, of Newburgh, Ind. began to slide on the ice-covered roadway, sending it off the left side. As the vehicle slid, it struck a disabled vehicle on the shoulder of the interstate.

An occupant in O’Connel’s vehicle, Melissa Baez-Guliani, 22, of South Bridge, was not wearing a seat belt and sustained moderate injuries in the crash, according to the report.

She was taken by ambulance to Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall for treatment.
