An Independence resident has been charged with domestic assault, armed criminal action, and kidnapping related to an incident last Thursday. Kent Sturgis, 25, is accused of holding his girlfriend hostage and hitting her in the head with a blunt object.
The victim told police she was carjacked in the 2900 block of Twyman Road. During the investigation, deputies said they received conflicting statements and ultimately discovered Sturgis had kidnapped the victim, took her to a home in the 18000 block of 18th Street North, and hit her multiple times, according to a report from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office. It was there, deputies said, that Sturgis and victim made up the story about the carjacking and called 9-1-1.
The victim’s name has not been released and she is expected to recover.
Sturgis was booked into the Jackson County Department of Corrections on a $100,000 bond.
