A tax preparer has been indicted by a federal grand jury for filing fraudulent tax returns over a five-year-period and stealing the inflated refunds from her clients.

Vera Irene-Smith, also known as Vera S. Bradley, 39, of Kansas City, was charged in a 56 count indictment on Wednesday, February 9.  Smith is alleged to have filed tax returns with false claims from 2004 to 2008, costing the government $ 112, 300.

The indictment also alleges Smith committed identity theft to assist in her fraudulent claims.
