The Principal for Southwest R-I in Ludlow, Tom Smith, resigned on Monday, March 23, 2015 effective immediately. Rumors have been circulating this unexpected resignation, but the Superintendent for the school, Cinthia Barnes, has released an official letter eliminating questions of doubt. According to the letter, the school board unanimously accepted Smith’s resignation and says it was due to a personnel issue. The letter goes on to address the question on everyone’s mind by stating, “…in no way did Mr. Smith’s resignation have anything to do with the students of Southwest School.”
Chris Elbert has been named the interim Principal and a meet and greet has been scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday April 1, 2015 at 6 p.m. at Southwest R-I. Elbert is a retired high school principal from the Gallatin School District. Elbert will finish out the remainder of the year and Southwest R-I is accepting applications to fill the position of principal for the 2015-16 school year.
