LINN COUNTY, Mo. — An investigation into the death of a child who died over the weekend finds that 11-year-old Jayden Royal, of Brookfield, died from the flu.

Linn County Coroner Kenny Creason reports that Royal began to come down with the flu on Wednesday, and when his mother checked on him around 3:30 a.m. Saturday, he was found to be unresponsive. Royal’s mother performed CPR on the child until emergency crews could get there.

He was pronounced dead at Pershing Memorial Hospital roughly half-hour after his arrival. When KMZU News asked about the situation, Creason advised parents of sick children to get their child medical attention sooner rather than later.
