JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (Press Release) – State Speaker of the House Todd Richardson and House Corrections and Public Institutions Committee Chairman Paul Fitzwater formed a committee to investigate alleged harassment of workers within the Department of Corrections. The two lawmakers named Republican Representative Jim Hansen of Frankford to head the committee.
“The harassment that has been uncovered within the department is completely unacceptable and cannot be tolerated,” Richardson said in his announcement. The Republican from Poplar Bluff went on to say that he is confident that positive changes can be made to improve the pervasive culture of harassment within the DOC.
Hansen has already held talks with corrections employees regarding their experiences with harassment in the workplace and will meet soon with the new director of the Department of Corrections, Anne Precythe.
