The noard was charged to distribute allowances appropriated by Congress to help expand capacity of food and shelter programs in high-need areas around the United States. Warrensburg Mo – The Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has allocated the following funds for Phase 30, the new program year:

Johnson County will receive $20,230.00.  These funds are to be used for emergency food, shelter, and utility assistance for homeless or potentially homeless families or individuals.

The selection was made by a National Board that is chaired by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and consists of representatives from the Salvation Army, American Red Cross, United Jewish Communities, Catholic Charities, USA National Council of the Churches of Christ in the U.S.A., and the United Way of American which will provide the administrative staff and function as fiscal agent.  The Board was charged to distribute funds appropriated by Congress to help expand the capacity of food and shelter programs in high-need areas around the country.

A Local Board may be composed of representatives of  Catholic Charities, United Way, Red Cross, Community Action Agency, Emergency Preparedness, Minister’s Union, Mental Health, Chamber of Commerce, a formerly homeless individual, and other interested individuals, will determine how the funds are to be distributed amount the programs operated by service organizations in the area.

Under the terms of the grant from the National Board, local organizations chose to receive funds must:

  1. Be private voluntary non-profits or units of government
  2. Have an account system
  3. Practice nondiscrimination
  4. Have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs.
  5. If they are a private voluntary organization, they must have a voluntary board.

Qualifying organizations are urged to apply.
