According to Heiss, the larger facility has allowed the county to house prisoners from other jurisdictions that may not have a detention center. Most of the municipalities for whom the Johnson County Jail is hosting inmates are located in urban areas.
Heiss says the recent expansion should also help broaden programs to help residents. The enlarged space is allowing the department to institute both an AA group and a Narcotics Anonymous chapter.
