A continuance has been granted for the jury trial in the case of a former Kearney junior high teacher. According to online court records, Rhett Rigby, 27, of Oak Grove, faces four counts each of statutory rape and statutory sodomy, as well as sexual contact with a student by a teacher, and tampering or attempted tampering with a victim or witness in a felony prosecution.

Rigby’s trial was originally scheduled to begin on the 26th of January. During proceedings on Friday, a Clay County judge ordered Rigby to now appear for trial on April 20th.

Both the state and defense were told that all pre-trial motions must be filed no later than the 13th of March.

Rigby is currently free on a $100,000 surety bond.
