A Kansas resident was arrested just west of Sweet Springs after being pulled over by a Missouri State Highway Patrol
Trooper Tuesday afternoon.
According to the probable cause statement, Jesus Chavez-Talamantes, 25, of Kansas City, was travelling eastbound on I-70, where he failed to signal and traveled to closely to another vehicle, causing the stop to be initiated.
A statement made by the Trooper indicates he became suspicious Chaves-Talamantes was involved in criminal activity, warranting his search of the vehicle. Upon further investigation, Chaves-Talamantes was found to be in possession of four black duffle bags containing approximately 165 pounds of marijuana.
He was jailed in Saline County on a single charge of 1st degree trafficking.
Bond for Chavez-Talamantes has been set at $500,000. Court in the matter has not yet been scheduled.
