The US Justice Department has announced that a Kearney Missouri resident was sentenced today for tax evasion. The owner of a scrap metal business, Nellie B. Boxx, 62, pleaded guilty in February 2015 of assisting tax preparers in submitting false information on tax returns. The false information included items such as classifying food and clothing articles for personal use as business expenses. Boxx also admitted to submitting false 1040 forms to receive loans, and making false statements to IRS agents regarding water damage to her business. Boxx will be sentenced to 18 months in federal prison without parole and ordered to pay restitution to the IRS amounting to over 366,000 dollars.
