An operator at a Lafayette County gas station is facing legal troubles.  Attorney General Chris Koster filed suit Thursday against Craig Peters for operating the Cross Roads Country Market gas station in Alma without insurance.  Missouri law requires owners and operators of underground storage tanks to maintain insurance for the cost of cleaning up any contamination. Koster is asking the court to shut the Cross Roads station down until Peters brings it into compliance.  “Underground storage tanks can pose a serious health threat to Missourians,” Koster said. “We must ensure that those responsible for maintaining them have the means to clean up any contamination that may occur.”  Peters could also be required to pay a fine up to $10,000 per day for each violation of the law.
