HIGGINSVILLE — Lafayette County C-1 Board of Education will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, to discuss and approve measures related to the opening of school and Lafayette County Health Department recommendations amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Agenda items include discussion and approval of calendar revisions, updated reentry procedures, a hybrid schedule option for the start of the school year and county health department recommendations.
On Thursday, the health department urged schools to push back the start of the school year to Sept. 14 and to cancel fall sports.
The health department cites a 56% increase in positive cases of COVID-19 in the past 30 days. Today, health officials told KMZU they could not provide a breakdown of age groups who contracted the coronavirus because individuals could be possibly be identified due to the population of the county.
On Friday, the health department reported four new cases to bring a total of 23 active cases in the county.
