UPDATE: At its June 24 meeting, the Lafayette County Rabbit Show Committee decided to proceed with the rabbit show.

HIGGINSVILLE, Mo. – Lafayette County 4-H and FFA Fair will kick off on Saturday, June 27 at Fairground Park, 801 W. 29th St. in Higginsville.

Events are scattered throughout many weeks, ending on Tuesday, July 28, due to the impact of COVID-19. Like many county fairs in the region, large-gathering events, like the Super Farmer competition and farmers appreciation dinner, have been cancelled for this year, according to Lafayette-Ray 4-H Youth Specialist Emily Bergseiker.

The fair board will meet Wednesday night, June 24, to determine whether the rabbit show will take place. At issue is a viral disease (rabbit hemorrhagic disease virus serotype 2) killing wild and domesticated rabbits in the western United States. That show is schedule for Monday, July 6.

The fair’s country-cured ham silent auction is slated for 6 p.m. on July 9 in the 4-H barn. The livestock auction follows at 7 p.m. in the pole barn.
