injury accidentWELLINGTON, Mo. — The Highway Patrol confirmed the accident in Lafayette County Tuesday afternoon involved three vehicles.

According to Highway Patrol records, Austin Ryan, 16, of Wellington, was northbound on MO 131 at US 24 around 7:43 p.m. when he failed to yield to traffic. Ryun collided with westbound driver Eduardo Gayton-Rosales, 38, of Kansas City, Kan., then continued to collide with Jaymie White, 16, of Wellington.

Ryun sustained moderate injuries during the accident, while his passenger Shawn Howell, 14, of Wellington, had minor injuries. Gayton-Rosales, and his 10-year-old passenger Kenvin Holguin, of Kansas City, Kan., were reported to be in serious condition. White’s 11-year-old passenger Michael Jeffrey, of Kansas City, Kan., was also in serious condition.

All were taken to Centerpoint Hospital in Independence for treatment.

ORIGINAL REPORT — A KMZU listener called Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at 8:10 p.m., stating a bad traffic crash had occurred at the intersection of Highway 24 and Highway 131 in Lafayette County.

Missouri State Highway Patrol confirmed the listener’s report, stating they had arrived on scene approximately 10 minutes before KMZU’s initial call. They also stated it is a two vehicle accident and travelers should avoid the area as the intersection is blocked.

The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department was initially contacted for a confirmation of the accident, but they refused to comment or confirm.
