A Lawson man accused of embezzling more than $100,000 from Clay Lodge #207 in Excelsior Springs will be in Clay City Court Tuesday morning. According to the probable cause statement Kent Hubbard, 40 was a member of the building board at the lodge and was one of two people who could sign checks. Hubbard had been remodeling the downstairs to prepare the building as a rental property. Police examined bank records and found between February and June of 2010 he wrote six checks for more than $27,000 to a business in his wife’s name. Then from September 2010 until May 2011 Hubbard wrote 42 checks totaling more than $80,000 to a business he opened in his own name. Estimates for the labor performed on the ground floor is less than $4,000. Hubbard is currently free on a $30,000 bond.
