Lawson man to appear in court to face nearly a dozen felony child abuse counts

RAY COUNTY, Mo. — A preliminary hearing is scheduled Friday for a Lawson man charged with multiple counts of child abuse.

32-year-old Gary Wyant was charged in September of 2018 after two children accused him of binding their hands with zip-ties and taping them inside cardboard boxes as punishment.

The kids also said that Wyant would grab them by their throats and carry them when he was angry. He is also accused of employing a “special paddle” for punishment.

Wyant is charged in Ray County with 11 counts of felony child abuse or neglect, tampering with the victim in a felony and tampering with evidence in a felony prosecution.

The hearing is on the docket at 10:30 a.m. Friday.
