During the first meeting of the U.S. Senate’s new Missouri River Working Group, senators told Army Corps of Engineers officials to put a higher priority on managing the river for flood control. Senator Brad Lager says the Corps’ management plan is not working.
Lager has also called for Senate hearings on the Corps’ management practices. He says funding priorities need to be changed.
According to Lager, the Corps’ actions are unacceptable.
Corps officials say they plan to complete an analysis of their response to historic water levels on the Missouri River by late summer.
