The Caldwell County Commission met with several groups last week regarding the Little Otter Creek Project. Click to hear KMZU’s Sarah Scott speak with Presiding Commissioner Bud Motsinger:
The program was started during a severe drought as a means to bring water to Caldwell County and they have been working on it for about 20 years. Motsinger says the primary purpose of the lake is for drinking water, but it will also be used for flood control and recreation. The Commission is currently working with engineers and consultants to get the permitting process through the Army Corps of Engineers.
They hope to start construction within three to five years. The commission currently has about half of the total necessary funding to complete it. Motsinger said they are working with legislators to obtain the rest.
