The Livingston County Jail remains on lock down after an escape attempt almost two weeks ago. Click to hear KMZU’s Kristie Cross speak with Sheriff Steve Cox:
Cox says the prison has been easier to run since going on lock down. “Our county permits us to only have five full-time detention officers, one part-time detention officer for full staff, that’s to run 24/7,” said Cox, “And, honestly, I can document, since we’ve done this 23-hour-a-day lock down, it’s been a much quieter place, we’ve had less aggression, less violent acts or threats from detainees towards other detainees or staff.” Cox said they are considering a reward system for good behavior. The lock down status will come under review every two weeks.
