These past few weeks we have brought you many stories on scams in the area, today Sheriff Steve Cox is advising residents to be aware of a scammer in Livingston County.
Multiple citizens have reported, a person with a foreign accent calling and claiming to be with the IRS or the Department of Treasury. The scammer then uses scare tactics stating the resident has delinquent taxes or bills. The victim is then asked to call a case manager to speak further or send quick money in various ways to fix the problem immediately.
Cox says the best way to handle this is to hang up, do not listen to pressure and scare tactics, and do not give out personal information. If you feel you have been a victim, you are urged to contact your local law enforcement immediately.
