MARSHALL — Saline County’s longtime county auditor has resigned her position, effective Monday, July 6, alleging “unprincipled behaviors” that has made her job impossible to do.
Tara Voegelsmeier released a public statement Monday morning, saying she’s leaving an “untenable position” due to “ongoing challenges by those practicing unprincipled behaviors.” She did not provide additional details as to whom she was referring or of the unsavory practices that were allegedly occurring.
According to the Saline County website, the position of auditor monitors the accounting, budgeting and expenditures of Saline County courthouse offices. Additionally, the auditor monitors the legal compliance of state laws for contracts, bids and purchase procedures, and certifies contracts and expenditures.
Vogelsmeier, who has been Saline County’s auditor for 17 1/2 years, says she ordered a county audit, performed by Gerding, Korte and Chitwood, which is now complete. All county books and records have been balanced through June 30, she says, with the county holding a 1 rating from Standard and Poor.
