You could call it a sting operation.
A New Cambria man has been charged in Macon County in a series of bee hive thefts in Linn and Macon counties.
Law enforcement found one dozen reportedly stolen bee hives at the residence of 43-year-old Ricky N. Elam, of New Cambria, on Wednesday. One hive, outfitted with a GPS tracker, led officers to Elam’s residence with a search warrant. Elam allegedly admitted to taking to the hive with the GPS device, according to court documents.
Other stolen items recovered include license plates from Brookfield, hive boxes from Schuyler County, game cameras and road signs. \
Elam is out of custody on a $15,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court 9 a.m. June 4th.
