Saline County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a rash of mailbox thefts and vandalism.
According to the department, they’ve taken more than half a dozen reports from residents on Highway EE and ZZ in Sweet Springs.
Reports indicate the crimes are being committed in the overnight hours.
The U.S. Postal Inspection Service treats mailbox vandalism as a federal offense, which can carry six-figure fines and possible prison time.
In fact, each act carries a maximum penalty of up to $250,000 in fines and up to three years in prison.
