Highway Patrol reports the crash occurred on eastbound I-70, just west of Adams Dairy Parkway. James Leroy Green, 60, hit the rear of David Beaird’s, 39, vehicle in Blue Springs, which caused a five-car chain reaction and left Chloe Beaird, 7, and Gavin Beaird, 13, dead.

David and his wife, Jennifer Beaird, 37, also a passenger, were taken to Centerpoint Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Reports now show David Beaird is paralyzed from the chest down.

Green is charged with two counts of second degree murder, felony driving while intoxicated, two counts of assault in the second degree, and driving while revoked.

In today’s arraignment, Green pleaded not guilty to his charges.

Court records show Green was charged with driving while intoxicated in 2007, to which he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to two years probation.

A bond has been set at $200,000 cash only with future court dates pending.
