LAWSON, Mo., — The Lawson Police Department has charged a Kansas City, Kan. man in connection with a police chase that occurred on Wednesday, January 25th.
According to a probable cause statement, at approximately 12:20, Lawson Police Officers were called in reference to a suspect matching the description of a driver of a stolen vehicle. The officers identified the suspect as Patrick Smith and tried to make contact with him. After trying to arrest Smith for a warrant out of Clay County, Smith resisted arrest and ran down the street.
Officers tried to pursue Smith both on foot and using a patrol car. When an officer got out of his vehicle to continue the pursuit, Smith stole the patrol vehicle. Smith later hit another vehicle and kept driving. Smith was arrested and is being charged with Felony resisting arrest, Felony property damage, felony tampering with a motor vehicle as well as three misdemeanor charges.
Smith is being held on a $50,000 cash only bond.
