SHELBY COUNTY, Mo. — A Michigan man was seriously injured after he fell asleep behind the wheel in Shelby County Wednesday morning.
According to the Missouri Highway Patrol crash report, Gregory Smoyer, 69, of Albion, Michigan, was eastbound on US 36 about a half a mile east of Hunnewell at 10:58 a.m. when Smoyer began to nod off. His vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway, struck a field entrance, went airborne and came to rest in a ditch on its wheels.
Smoyer was taken by ambulance to Hannibal Regional Hospital for treatment of moderate injuries.
