Parents are encouraged to bring their kids, grades k-4, out to the derby no matter what their experience level or equipment situation. “We’ve basically furnished everything,” said Graves “We’ll have a few poles, we will have the bait, and we will provide food at lunch time. During lunch we will award trophies for the biggest fish, the smallest fish, and the most fish caught, that way everyone has a chance. Some of these kids, this is their first time fishing, so it’s just a great trip to see all those smiles on the kids faces.”

There may be a chance of getting wet, so make sure to bring an umbrella and rain coats. Graves said they plan on keeping the derby going despite a change in weather. “We got rained out the first time so this is the second round. Hopefully the weather will be nice, but unless there’s thunder and lighting, we’ll probably go ahead and have it even if it’s raining.”

Parents must accompany their children to this event which will start at 9:00 a.m. and will run until noon. It will be held at John and Phyllis Rector’s house. Once you’re on S Lincoln Ave. on the East side of Marshall, you’ll take WW around 2 curves to 210th Rd where you will turn left, that road turns into Lady Bug Drive,  28061 Lady Bug Dr. is the address, watch for signs.
