The Higginsivlle Senior Center has begun their annual campaign to raise money for their Nutritional Program. Click to hear KMZU’s Sarah Scott speak with Jenny Holt.

Holt said the money raised is used to provide meals for seniors in the community. “We get a third of our funding from the Older Americans Act, which is part of the federal government. Because of the sequestration they have cut our budget, so we are struggling to make ends meet.” The Nutritional Services are the larges part of what the Senior Center provides to the community.

Holt added  donations are accepted in many forms including volunteer work. “If they are interested in donating to the campaign, they would just drop of a check, money order or cash. Or they can mail it to the Senior Center at 101 W. 21st Street in Higginsville, 64037. She said, “They can always stop by we love to have visitors, so people can see what we’re doing and what programs we have to offer.”

The campaign will run through the end of June, but donations are always welcome.
