The search for a Kingsville teenager has ended.  Officials have confirmed that the body of Brian Vanmeter, 18, was pulled from Big Creek, near Harrisonville, on Friday morning.  Click to hear KMZU’s Sarah Scott speak with Johnson County Sheriff Chuck Heiss:

Chuck Heiss

Vanmeter disappeared Sunday, June 2nd while boating with friends, according to the sheriff’s office.  Heiss said the young men encountered trouble with a low-hanging tree and capsized.  Vanmeter, a recent high school graduate, was not able to make it to shore.

His body was located near the site of the accident around 10:30 a.m. Friday.

Heiss said the search has been ongoing throughout the week.  “We had a tremendous response from the community each and every day of the search.  There were dozens of volunteers walking the creek banks, using ATVs, scouring the area, helping us search.  We used underwater divers, obviously rescue divers, we used cadaver dogs, SONAR, obviously the Missouri Water Patrol assisted at the scene,” said Heiss.
