The Missouri Department of Conservation is taking steps to gain more exposure to nature at a young age. The MDC offers a variety of programs for kids to get them involved with the world around them. Conservation Education Consultant Karen Armstrong, says education at this age is imperative.

Armstrong says some of this education is focused on the different wildlife in Missouri, including the turtle.

The Missouri Department of Conservation is trying to raise awareness as to the significance of turtles to our ecosystem. Missouri is home to seventeen different types of turtles. Armstrong says one of the most infamous is the snapping turtle.

The Missouri Department of Conservation offers several different programs to youth ranging from young children to teenagers. More information is available on their website at mdc.mo.gov.
