(Ozark, MO) -AP- A 64-year-old Ozark man is expected to be put to death today by the state of Missouri for the murder of his former landlord nearly 30 years ago.

The Springfield News-Leader reports a federal appeals court lifted the stay of execution for Walter Barton Monday. Barton was tried five times for 81-year-old Gladys Kuelher’s death and the first two trials ended in a mistrial and hung jury. The next two led to convictions but both were overturned. The final trial in 2006 led to a conviction and a sentence of death.

Governor Parson was asked yesterday if he would intervene, and he said the execution will “move forward as scheduled.”
