The Missouri Valley College Division of Fine Arts is currently accepting registrations for their summer performing arts camp. Click to hear KMZU’s Sarah Scott talk with co-director Janie Morgan:
“We will start off the day with get up and groove with all of the students combined together,”said Morgan, “I’m doing a class on creative expression with a lot of dance improv and games where the students can express themselves through movement. There’s a class on choreography where the students will create dances together and a section on enhancing their technique that is designed for those who have some dance skills already.”
The camp, which is open to students who have completed grades 4-12, will take place July 23-27 on the Missouri Valley Campus in Marshall. The week will conclude with a performance showcase at 7:00 p.m. on Friday evening.

The camp is $135 if registered and paid prior to May 30th or $150 if registered and paid after that date. Lunch will be provided to the students each day of the camp.
The Missouri Valley College Division of Fine Arts is hosting a performing arts camp July 23-27 on the MVC campus in Marshall. The camp will conclude with a performance showcase at 7 p.m. on July 27in MVC’s Eckilson-Mabee Theatre and the J&D Morris Dance Studio.
Students who have completed grades 4-12 will have the opportunity to take classes from camp co-directors Janie Morgan, assistant professor of dance, and Harold Hynick, assistant professor of theatre. Morgan and Hynick will provide a format that allows for the options of crafting an experience that can be focused primarily on dance, theatre, or a mixture of the two.
“Our overall goal is to provide an opportunity for area students to build and develop skills in the performing arts,” Hynick said. “We want to expand the number and variety of opportunities available in order to serve the interests and needs of more students.”
Classes will include: Get Up and Move, Scene Slash, Creative Expression, Choreography, Relaxation, Improvisation, and Afternoon Move and Groove. Students who have completed the sixth grade and above will have the opportunity to choose additional advanced course including Shakespeare and Enhancing Dance Technique.
The camp takes place from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. each day. The camp is $135 if registered and paid before May 30, or $150 if registered and paid after May 30. Lunch will be provided each day.
