Five student-athletes of the MVC Track and Field team will be representing the school at the NAIA Outdoor Championships in Gulf Shores, AL, which starts tomorrow and runs through Saturday. The women’s team will have 2 student-athletes attending and the men’s will have 3.
On the women’s side, as the 21st seed, Senior Sarah Niemeier (Germany) will be competing in the marathon. Junior Brittney Brisco (San Diego, CA) will appear in the long jump event as a 6 seed with a national qualifying distance of 5.83 meters. Neimeier is slated to begin her event early Saturday morning, while Brisco will be jumping Friday evening.
For the men’s, three Sophomore’s will be highlighting the events for MVC. Phillip Cheruiyot (Nairobi, Kenya) as the 11th seed will be competing in the marathon, Zhitavion Shelby (Decatur, IL) is drawn as an 18th seed in the triple jump event, and local Markell Strickland (Hannibal, MO) will be the seeded no. 27 in the 110 meter hurdles. Strickland will compete in the preliminary round Friday afternoon, while Cheruiyot and Shelby are both scheduled for Saturday.
