A-A-R-P Missouri is gearing up for its annual Day of Service this weekend. Missourians are encouraged to dedicate the 10th anniversary of 9-11 to fighting hunger in their communities. Diane Hall with A-A-R-P Missouri says food insecurity is a big problem. Click to hear Hall.
“In the United States, there are nearly six million older Americans who face hunger every day. And that statistic is only going to go up as the population grows.”
Hall says A-A-R-P’s “Create the Good” website makes it easy for everyone to get involved. Click to hear Hall.
“And it has different tool kits and things. If you’ve got 5 minutes, if you’ve got 5 days, or 5 years, you know, whatever time you have to donate. They have a way you can assist and hunger is one of the issues that has a toolkit on that site.”
Missouri ranks 6th in the nation for the number of ‘food insecure’ homes, and 5th in childhood hunger, according to the Missouri Food Bank Association.
