(JEFFERSON CITY, Mo.)–With four children, Sara and Steve Gallivan of Bolivar know the importance of safe, nutritious food for the health of their family. Now, thanks to a contest sponsored by Missouri Farmers Care, the Gallivans have $500 worth of groceries to help offset the cost of feeding their growing family. The grocery giveaway is part of an educational campaign to help make a connection between consumers and the farmers who feed them.
The Gallivan family, Steve, Sara and their four children, accepted the grocery gift cards July 14 at the MFA Bolivar Farmers Exchange, which recently celebrated its 90th year of serving area farmers and ranchers.
“It will make a big difference,” said Sara Gallivan, a stay-at home mother whose husband teaches science and coaches basketball in the Halfway school district. After a pause, she smiled and added, “It’s almost a month’s worth.”
Gallivan found the Missouri Farmers Care promotion through Facebook and entered the online contest. Delighted after finding out she was a winner, Gallivan received $500 in grocery gift cards to the family’s favorite grocer, Woods Supermarket in Bolivar.
Coordinated by Missouri’s major agricultural groups and agribusiness organizations, the Missouri Farmers Care Grocery Giveaway began June 1 with the Gallivans selected as the first of this summer’s winners. The grocery giveaway promotion will also award winners in July and August. Missouri consumers 18 years or older can sign up at www.MoFarmersCare.com by watching videos featuring Missouri farmers and completing an online entry form.
Sponsoring groups of the Missouri Farmers Care Grocery Giveaway include the Missouri Corn Merchandising Council, Missouri Pork Association, Missouri Beef Industry Council, Midwest Dairy Association, MFA Oil, FCS Financial, Missouri Farm Bureau, MFA Incorporated and the St. Louis AgriBusiness Club.
