Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley joined with 11 other senators representing states along the Missouri River to ask the Army Corps of Engineers to explain how it will use its authority to reduce flooding risks in the future. Grassley says flood control must be the top priority for how the Corps manages the dams on the river. The senators wrote a letter to the Corps saying they believe it’s critical that the lessons learned from this year’s event be factored into next year’s plan – including adjustments to the Missouri River Master Water Control Manual. The senators say repairing damage from this year’s flood will take time – but they want some answers as to how changes will occur.
