KEARNEY – The Missouri Department of Transportation and the City of Kearney are currently working on preliminary plans to improve safety, alleviate congestion and improve sight distance on Route 92 from east of Interstate 35 to Nation Road. An open-house style public hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 24 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Kearney City Hall, 100 E. Washington in Kearney to gather public input regarding the location and design for the proposed project.

This open-house style meeting will share with the public the preliminary plans and potential right of way impacts to property in the area. Currently, the plans are to widen Route 92 from just east of I-35 to Sam Barr Road to a four lane roadway with turn lanes. In addition, the intersections between Sam Barr Road and Nation Road will be reconstructed to improve sight distance and safety. Sidewalks have also been included in the improvements.

The public is encouraged to drop by anytime during the posted hours to talk to MoDOT engineers and city officials at the hearing and offer comments. Those unable to attend can view the displays and offer comments through an online public meeting at www.modot.org/kc.
