COOPER COUNTY, Mo. — The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has issued a permit for a large hog lot operation in Cooper County.
Pipestone System of Minnesota intends to build a facility capable of handling 7,404 hogs at Renshaw Drive, near the Moniteau County line. The proposed location is just off I-70.
The operation, called Tipton East, will consist of two large pig barns and a compost building for dead animals.
The permit was issued despite complaints from local residents that the hog lot would create a substantial risk of water and air pollution.
