A 35-year-old Kansas City woman has admitted that she swindled 14 couples by pretending to be pregnant with twins who she claimed she wanted to put up for adoption. Roxanne Jones pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud and identity theft. The Missouri woman asked the couples for money for rent and other living expenses.

The Missouri Board of Education will meet later this week in Branson to discuss the future of the Kansas City public schools. The Kansas City district is losing its accreditation on January 1st.

A memorial service will be held today at the Missouri Capitol to honor people who’ve been affected by vehicle accidents involving impaired drivers. In the past three years, 800 Missourians have been killed and more than 3,000 people have been seriously injured in accidents involving impaired drivers.

The St. Charles County Council has rejected a measure that would’ve given voters an opportunity to decide on a countywide smoking ban. The proposal failed yesterday when the council deadlocked 3-3. Sponsor Joe Cronin says the rejection will likely prompt smoking opponents to start a petition drive to put the measure on the November 2012 ballot.

A Springfield man is accused of posing as a law enforcement officer, chasing after two men and ramming their car. Twenty-three-year-old Christopher Jones faces two assault charges. Court documents say the incident started last week after Jones told two men who had just bought beer that they appeared under age.

A larger version of the Titanic exhibit is returning to Kansas City’s Union Station. The display will open on March 10th. The timing of the exhibit will coincide with the 100th anniversary of the Titanic’s sinking in April 1912.
