The Marshall City Council heard beatification plans from a local boy scout at Monday night’s meeting. CJ Latimer plans to improve the grounds next to the Martin Community Center. Council agreed to contribute up to $1,000 for concrete to install a sidewalk. City crews will also do some of the labor.
Council also adopted an agreement with the Marshall-Saline Development Corporation regarding the building at 211 North Benton. Click to hear KMZU’s Sarah Scott speak with City Administrator Connie Latimer:
MSDC will now receive any income from the property on north Benton Street to use for business development. “It will be for a business, or for a business that will want to come to town. And we do have some of those,” said Latimer, “And buildings that are available, sometimes the rent is pretty expensive. And it’s kind of tough if you’re just getting a business started. It’s kind of tough to handle all of the expenses, all at one time.”
Council also adopted a new policy following recent diversity training. “Our personnel policy was totally outdated, as far as this sort of thing. We talked about it before. All the Council had seen it, everyone had signed off on it, but we never voted it in to policy, to put it into our personnel policy.” The measure was approved unanimously.
