COLUMBIA, Mo. — Graduate students on the campus of the University of Missouri are gathering to protest changes made to the availability of health insurance.
Member of the Steering Committee for the Forum on Graduate Rights Derek Scott, said graduate students were informed with only 12 hours notice that health insurance would be dissolved. Scott said many of these students have families relying on their wages and insurance.
“Put yourself in the position where your boss emails you on a Friday morning and told you that your health insurance, that you had been promised in your contract, would be taken away from you in 12 hours,” Scott said. “Not only that, but then you would be charged for that insurance, and that charge would be due within two weeks.”
Graduate students at the university agree, Wednesday’s demonstration is about more than just wages, but about their voice at the university.
