KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Press Release) — Mules’ righthanded pitcher Ethan Westphal was named the MIAA Co-Pitcher of the Week after his performance in UCM’s 3-0 win over Nebraska-Kearney last Saturday. This is the third conference pitcher of the week award for the junior in the last four weeks.
Westphal tossed seven shutout innings in the game for the Mules. He allowed just one infield single in the second inning and that was it for the Lopers. He struck out nine batters in the game and walked only two. Only one base runner reached second base during his seven innings of work.
The Winterset, Iowa native is 3-1 with a 2.45 ERA in six appearances and five starts this season. He leads the UCM pitching staff with 43 strikeouts in 36.2 innings of work and is limiting opponents to a .183 batting average.
The Mules are back in action tonight (Tuesday) at Lindenwood at 6 p.m. They return home to host Northwest Missouri in a three-game set beginning on Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m. at Crane Stadium/Tompkins Field.
