MARSHALL, Mo. (MVC Press Release)- The Missouri Valley College men’s and women’s rodeo teams continued competition at the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyo., Wednesday.
Competing Wednesday for the Viking men’s rodeo team was Senior Cole Picton (Fort Dodge, Iowa) in the bareback riding competition. Picton finished third in Wednesday’s competition, with a score of 73. He sits tied for second in the overall event standings with a 212 average, 24 points behind first place. Senior Coleman Rude (Silver Lake, Ind.) competed in the bull riding competition, but posted a no-score and is tied for No. 11 in the overall event standings.
On the women’s side, Sophomore Cassidy Webster (Kingdom City, Mo.) finished third in Wednesday’s competition in barrel racing with a time of 14.04. Webster sits atop the overall event standings in barrel racing with an average of 42.50. Sophomore Kirbie Crouse (Gallatin, Mo.) placed third in breakaway roping, with a time of 2.5. Senior Chelsey Merrigan (Conception Junction, Mo.) and Freshman Kate Grover (Cresco, Iowa) also competed Wednesday, but both posted a no-score. Crouse leads the overall event standings with an average of 8.0. Grover sits at No. 12 with an average of 5.5 and Merrigan is No. 26 with an average of 3.1.
After Wednesday’s competition, the Viking women’s rodeo team is third in the team standings with 215 points. Gillette College leads the women’s team standings with 307 points. The men’s rodeo team has 65 points and is No. 38 in the standings.
The College National Finals Rodeo continues in Casper, Wyo., through the rest of the week, finishing Saturday with the Championship round at 8 p.m., CST.
