HENRIETTA ,TX There are 489 steers reported stolen in northern Texas and there is a $25,000 cash reward for information leading up to an arrest.
The Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association (TSRA) is investigating the case. TSRCA said due to the large herd maintained by the rancher, he did not notice the cattle missing until he went to ship the herd.
The cattle are suspected to be stolen sometime between November of 2018 and August of 2019. Investigators said the Angus-Charolais crossbred steers are valued at $735,000 and each steer had a brand on the left hip.
The missing steers weigh around 800 to 1,000 lbs each.
Oklahoma NPR ran an article in 2015 where unmarked younger calves were reportedly coming up missing more and more because they are easier to steal. The article indicated that cattle theft is on the rise due to the drug epidemic and an increase in cattle prices.
Operation Cow Thief and the Texas cattle rancher are putting up the $25,000 reward money. Crimestoppers is putting up an additional $1,000 for information about.
