American Red Cross Communications Manager Dan Fox spoke to KMZU’s Kristie Cross about the new blood donor app that is now available.

Dan Fox

The American Red Cross has launched a new blood donor app that allows you to find a donation opportunity near you, schedule appointments, even track your donation history.  Contrary to popular believe the fact is there is a constant need for blood donations.

This brand new blood donor app will put the convenience of making your next appointment in the palm of your hand. Other features of the app include being able to take personalized “selfies” to share on social media, a chance to form a team with other donors and track your progress through the Blood Donor Teams Leaderboard, even see where your past donations have gone and who they have helped.

To donate blood you must be at least 17, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in generally good health. Your blood will be tested before donating to make sure your iron count is high enough.

To get the Blood Donor App you can search for the American Red Cross in the app store on your smartphone, by texting BloodApp to 90999, or visiting redcross.org or redcrossblood.org/bloodapp. Message and data rates for texting may apply.
