Press Release from Daum Museum

Ah Leon: Memories of Elementary School Coming up Oct. 1-Dec. 18.

Taiwanese ceramist Ah Leon is internationally celebrated for his masterful transformation of clay into fool-the-eye replicas of tree trunks, branches and other objects of weathered wood. The Daum will exhibit his most recent monumental ceramic installation, featuring 20 life-sized sets of stoneware desks and chairs complete with carved initials, scratches and graffiti. Arranged in rows on a 16-by-32-foot platform, they create a phantom classroom, evoking memories of childhood. His rendering of the texture, patina and solidity of his subjects is extraordinary.
