A fire protection district is seeking volunteers after increasing coverage in late 2019.
In a post Wednesday, Johnson County Fire Protection touted improved coverage with their new station location. Chief Larry Jennings, said the station is the 12th established in the county, located southwest of Whiteman Air Force Base, at 830 SE Y Highway. The additional coverage will incorporate over 1,000 structures, valued at over $31 million, to within five miles of response time. Jennings also says the additional location may reduce insurance rates for surrounding property owners.
The chief also took the opportunity to request additional volunteer firefighters to assist with making the station operational.
