The second in a three phase operation on the Route Z improvement in Columbia was completed last week and a ribbon cutting will be held Tuesday to celebrate the achievement.
It’s a new roundabout at St. Charles Road. The roundabout was constructed to improve safety at the intersection, which is expected to see increased traffic from the new Battle High School.
The ceremony will be Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. in the middle of the roundabout, rain or shine. The public is invited to attend.
Press Release from the Missouri Department of Transportation
BOONE COUNTY – The second of three major milestones included in the Route Z improvement project in Columbia was completed today when the Route Z roundabout at St. Charles Road was opened to the public.
“We appreciate the patience of area motorists as we work to wrap up this project,” said Missouri Department of Transportation Engineer Kirsten Munck. “The final phase will be to complete resurfacing on Route Z from I-70 to St. Charles Road and widen the shoulders there. The contractor has worked diligently on this job, and all work is expected to be completed before the start of classes at the new Battle High School on Aug. 20.”
A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 13, to celebrate the completion of the Route Z project. The ceremony will be held rain or shine in the center of the roundabout. State and local officials will be on hand to cut the ribbon, and the public is invited to attend the event.
Parking for the ribbon cutting will be available at Camping World, 8877 Interstate 70 Drive Southeast. A shuttle will transport attendees from the parking lot to the roundabout. The first shuttle departs the Camping World parking lot at about 9:30 a.m. and a second shuttle leaves at approximately 9:45 a.m. After the ceremony is over the shuttle will return attendees to the parking lot at Camping World.
The Route Z project was designed to improve safety and accommodate an expected increase in traffic associated with the new Battle High School. Also included in the project was the replacement of the existing Route Z bridge over Interstate 70. The new bridge was completed and opened to the public on July 19.
